Staying at Casa Vapor is a unique experience for those who want to immerse themselves in the authentic atmosphere of the mediterranean. The residence is a contemporary interpretation of Ponza’s recent past: until a century ago the islanders were still to be found living in the natural caves that abound there, and Vapor harks back to this traditional way of living with a special charm. It was created by the excavation and renovation of a linked group of caves, each one being turned into a room looking out to sea, and with direct access to the enclosed garden. Located on the headland region of “Frontone”, Vapor is part of the famous Ponza coastline, and one can admire the splendid port, busy with its fishing boats, shops, restaurants and its nightlife. Besides a small hotel, there are few other buildings around Vapor, partly because of the private road that provides access. It is in fact advisable to approach the house from the sea, by hiring a small landing stage. The distance from the landing stage is about 3 minutes by foot. By night we would advise taxi as the best means of getting about, and by day a boat is indispensable for discovering the unspoilt natural coastline with its isolated beaches and crystal clear water.
