Arcelle is a lovely stone-built farmhouse with an attached guest house, set in the enchanting Umbrian countryside. It is within easy reach of the town of Umbertide and the Tuscan border. It is the perfect location from which to explore the area, famed for its cultural and historical attractions such as the towns of Siena, Cortona and Gubbio. Between the two buildings is a pergola, which is equipped for dining ‘al fresco’ while you enjoy the panorama. The villa has a private swimming pool set on a raised terrace in the large garden and enjoys stunning views of the rolling Umbrian hills. There is ample comfortable garden and pool furniture available. This villa has been recently renovated both inside and out, building onto the original medieval walls in order to expose their beauty and give the house a rustic and authentic feel. The spacious interior has been lovingly restored using 19th Century oak beams for the ceilings. It also boasts stone fireplaces and old terracotta floors. The little village of Spedalicchio is only 3 kms away and has a food shop and coffee bar. excellent We were absolutely DELIGHTED with Villa Arcelle and Luca was not only available if needed but very helpful and welcoming too. It’s a delightful property set in wonderful surroundings. The one and ONLY comment we would make is that the villa would benefit from having a proper pathway from the parking area to the steps so that bags can be pulled along rather than having to be picked up and carried over the grass. Unfortunately, the grass was very wet when we arrived and carrying bags over wet grass (rather than being able to pull them along as most people would do normally) made our arrival a little more difficult that it might otherwise have been. It also meant that we all got wet feet! However, that is the ONLY comment/observation that we feel worthwhile mentioning because we had a wonderful time in a wonderful villa! Thank you also for making contact which we also appreciated. |

excellent Ginny Harlan has already sent her comments, and I agree with them all and have a few additions. The booklet with restaurant and sightseeing suggestions was helpful. YOur description of Arcelle is very accurate. I suggest you remove mosquito netting from the amenties as there are excellent window screens on most of the windows now. We had an excellent dinner at the Agriturismo Ristorante Calagrana down the road. It was a good suggestion. The kitchen could use a better, sharper knife for preparing the food. The small knives were fine, but a larger one is needed for carving meat. Also needed is a pepper grinder. You, Sara, were very helpful and responsive to our needs. Luca is utterly charming and tries hard, but communication could be difficult. I underline the plumbing problem in the kitchen sink which we could work around but should be improved, if possible. The shower worked well. The decor (by Isabelle, Luca said) is warm, charming and in very good taste. The touches of geraniums in strategic pots and the flowers in the garden add a lot. I have one question: what is the white sediment (like chalk) that is in the water and even in the bottled water we bought? It left a white deposit in the tea kettle and other places which coud be washed off. I am just curious to know if it is only local and exactly what it is. Thanks for all. |

excellent This was a totally delightful place. It is so tastefully done, and the views even exceeded the pictures. Luca was always helpful as was the staff of Home in Italy. It was particularly nice to be able to use Luca\'s computer as neither my friend nor I were able to access his Wi-Fi. It was very helpful to have the groceries in the house to start with and a delight to have such a fine, prepared meal on our first night. Bathrooms are certainly large and beds very comfortab le. Although verbally instructed by Luca, it might be helpful to have instructions about TV, dishwasher, WiFi on an available print-out. Is there any way to adjust the water in the kitchen sink, which either comes slowly or spurts out? The one last suggestion, is that it would be good if the pool could be cleaned (leaves removed) at least once a week. Overall this was a wonderful stay and I would heartily recommend Arcelle to anyone. It was so beautiful that I felt as tho I was living in a postcard!! Virginia Harlan 09\'27/12 |
