Arcelle is a lovely stone-built farmhouse with an attached guest house, set in the enchanting Umbrian countryside. It is within easy reach of the town of Umbertide and the Tuscan border. It is the perfect location from which to explore the area, famed for its cultural and historical attractions such as the towns of Siena, Cortona and Gubbio.
Between the two buildings is a pergola, which is equipped for dining ‘al fresco’ while you enjoy the panorama.
The villa has a private swimming pool set on a raised terrace in the large garden and enjoys stunning views of the rolling Umbrian hills. There is ample comfortable garden and pool furniture available.
This villa has been recently renovated both inside and out, building onto the original medieval walls in order to expose their beauty and give the house a rustic and authentic feel. The spacious interior has been lovingly restored using 19th Century oak beams for the ceilings. It also boasts stone fireplaces and old terracotta floors.
The little village of Spedalicchio is only 3kms/1,8miles away and has a food shop and coffee bar. For a wider choice of shopping facilities, Umbertide is about 11kms/6,8miles away.

opinion very good

Great week. A positive may be its location if you want to totally unwind, a negative may also be its location which is rather isolated. If you are looking to pop round to have an early morning espresso or early evening glass of prosecco with the locals, definitely not the right villa. Nice pool, good gym, plenty of space. Very helpful local staff though it will help if you have at least some basic knowledge of Italian. I was able to get some recommendation to local restaurants. Go to Montone (about 15kms away) for l'antica osteria.

We are now back in Australia after having a wonderful time in Italy. The first thing I want to do is to thank you for all the help you gave us when we were making the booking and afterwards. I really appreciated your patient, prompt and always helpful replies to my questions. Would you please also thank Chiara for her help when I lost the house information sheet. I would have no hesitation in recommending your agency.

I had expected that Arcelle would turn out to be not as good as it looked on your website. In fact it was better. The rooms and the beds were bigger and lighter than I had expected. It was very pleasant to have insect screens on the windows which could then be kept open. The kitchen was quite adequate and there was a generous supply of crockery, cutlery and glassware. The bedrooms were very comfortable and had plenty of storage. The bathrooms were a good size and contained everything required. The house was very clean and the grounds well maintained. Most of the time we ate outside in the shaded eating area from which you have a beautiful view of the Niccone valley. There were plenty of outdoor chairs in the garden and around the pool which also was well maintained and clean.

We thought that Arcelle was in a great position. It sits on a rise by itself and there is almost no sound at all at night. The unsealed road leading to the house is a little rough in parts but no more than you would expect of such a road. There are any number of interesting excursions you can make within an hour’s drive and plenty within half an hour’s drive. There is a wide range of restaurants nearby. I noticed only at the end of our holiday that there is a walking track not far away. There is a sign post to it near Niccone and another on the road to Lake Trasimeno. We had pleasant walka around the unsealed roads. Roberta who shopped, cooked once, and cleaned was very helpful and efficient.

Regards, Jennifer

We had a lovely holiday and Luca was very welcoming and helpful upon our arrival. We loved the location and space at Arcelle. Especially loved the views and the outside dining area and garden. We will certainly be booking through Home in Italy again, this is our second year with you and we have been very pleased with each property.

We had a wonderful time again in Italy. Both villas (La Sommita Cottage and Arcelle) were great and the owners/caretakers were very kind and helpful. It was our second year in Arcelle but we are already considering going back next year. The scenery is simply amazing, the food is the best and the people are lovely.

Thanks for your email. We had a wonderful stay at the Villa Arcelle and I would recommend it to anyone who was looking for a peaceful holiday set in the most beautiful landscape and the villa itself affording excellent living conditions and tastefully fitted out. I also thank yourselves for recommending this particular villa amongst those on your short list, you obviously know your product. The villa is also within very easy range of a number if of excellent restaurants so beware your waistline. I would return to both the region and the villa

We had a fantastic time at Arcelle. The villa was beautiful and well maintained. The owner was very helpful and we were lucky to meet his lovely wife during our stay. We were very fortunate with the weather, albeit a bit too hot for myself in the afternoons. We all had a fantastic time and will definitely be in touch regards a return visit, hopefully next year for longer.

Thank you for all your assistance with managing our booking and the great information you sent us.

Kind Regards

We loved our stay at Arcelle. Luca was very helpful and friendly. He told us about the history of the house, while giving a practical tour. He also gave us tips about the area, towns, restaurants and shops. The property is in a very good condition and is perfectly charming. The location and the view from any point in the garden is the highlight. The house itself has lots of character and has the advantage of remaining cool even in Umbria summer temperatures. The swimming pool gave us the opportunity to cool off outside and was the play area of the kids for two weeks. The shopping service made our arrival easy. We are seriously considering coming back next year for three rather than two weeks.
Thanks for your help in finding this property.

We were absolutely DELIGHTED with Villa Arcelle and Luca was not only available if needed but very helpful and welcoming too. It’s a delightful property set in wonderful surroundings.

The one and ONLY comment we would make is that the villa would benefit from having a proper pathway from the parking area to the steps so that bags can be pulled along rather than having to be picked up and carried over the grass. Unfortunately, the grass was very wet when we arrived and carrying bags over wet grass (rather than being able to pull them along as most people would do normally) made our arrival a little more difficult that it might otherwise have been. It also meant that we all got wet feet!

However, that is the ONLY comment/observation that we feel worthwhile mentioning because we had a wonderful time in a wonderful villa!

Thank you also for making contact which we also appreciated.

Ginny Harlan has already sent her comments, and I agree with them all and have a few additions.

The booklet with restaurant and sightseeing suggestions was helpful. YOur description of Arcelle is very accurate.
I suggest you remove mosquito netting from the amenties as there are excellent window screens on most of the windows now.

We had an excellent dinner at the Agriturismo Ristorante Calagrana down the road. It was a good suggestion.

The kitchen could use a better, sharper knife for preparing the food. The small knives were fine, but a larger one is needed for carving meat. Also needed is a pepper grinder.

You, Sara, were very helpful and responsive to our needs.
Luca is utterly charming and tries hard, but communication could be difficult.

I underline the plumbing problem in the kitchen sink which we could work around but should be improved, if possible.
The shower worked well.

The decor (by Isabelle, Luca said) is warm, charming and in very good taste. The touches of geraniums in strategic pots and the flowers in the garden add a lot.

I have one question: what is the white sediment (like chalk) that is in the water and even in the bottled water we bought? It left a white deposit in the tea kettle and other places which coud be washed off. I am just curious to know if it is only local and exactly what it is.

Thanks for all.

This was a totally delightful place. It is so tastefully done, and the views even exceeded the pictures. Luca was always helpful as was the staff of Home in Italy. It was particularly nice to be able to use Luca's computer as neither my friend nor I were able to access his Wi-Fi. It was very helpful to have the groceries in the house to start with and a delight to have such a fine, prepared meal on our first night. Bathrooms are certainly large and beds very comfortab le.

Although verbally instructed by Luca, it might be helpful to have instructions about TV, dishwasher, WiFi on an available print-out. Is there any way to adjust the water in the kitchen sink, which either comes slowly or spurts out? The one last suggestion, is that it would be good if the pool could be cleaned (leaves removed) at least once a week.

Overall this was a wonderful stay and I would heartily recommend Arcelle to anyone. It was so beautiful that I felt as tho I was living in a postcard!!
