UNESCO
World Heritage Site. During the annual event held in May called 'infiorata',
Noto becomes one giant floral display with every street and piazza lined

of different kinds of flowers are used to create a variety of figures,
often with religious, mythological or social themes.
The
Aeolian islands are seven little volcanic islands
surrounded by a warm and deep sea with an atmosphere that recalls a
history of sea adventures going back 5000 years.
The main
island Lipari, is the largest of the
Aeolian
Islands. Its volcanic nature is revealed by its dominating
colours, the white of the pumice stones scattered all around the coastline
and the black of the obsidian of Castellaccio Vecchio.
The volcanic phenomenon can also be observed in the island's thermal
springs.
