Situated in Sardinia, the second biggest island of Italy, this luxury holiday beach villa for rent faces the splendid sea of the Smeralda coast dominating it from a distance.
Luna is situated on the summit of a promontory that forms part of Porto Rafael, a small piece of paradise and an exclusive resort.
The property is immersed in greenery, interrupted by rocks of granite in extravagant forms reminiscent of the moon (Luna signifies moon). The sea is visible from many parts of this exclusive Italian villa and various areas of the garden offer particularly enchanting glimpses of it.
Surrounded by one hectare of land, the villa offers the possibility to enjoy large external spaces of a total of 300 m2 of terraced areas, including the patio furnished with a large table for twelve people, with sofas, wooden sunbeds and stone seating areas. The patio is connected to an external kitchen with a sink, cooker and stone barbecue. Luna is equipped with a pleasant living room designed with rounded forms, and large picture windows that illuminate the interior and create a continuation to the exterior.
Three of the five bedrooms have French windows leading to the garden. One of the bedrooms is only accessible from the exterior and is situated next to the swimming pool.
The swimming pool is positioned in front of the house, just three metres away.
The living areas are enriched with objects on a seaside theme of evocative memories, making the rooms more like a villa lived in all year round rather than a holiday home.
Designed in the early 1960s by a Spanish nobleman, Count Rafael Neville from which it takes its name, Porto Rafael rises forty-five kilometres from the airport of Olbia, facing the Maddalena archipelago.
It is a small district set in between the rocks, there are no hotels or large complexes in Porto Rafael, just exclusive private villas and houses immersed in 150 hectares of Mediterranean vegetation, camouflaged between the rocks.
A location, Porto Rafael, which is discreet but not isolated where peace is guaranteed, relaxing in front of the sea sitting at a coffee bar in one of the two small squares of Porto Rafael.
The first square, with a tobacconist, a small supermarket stocked with local delicacies, a shop selling books and Italian and foreign newspapers is the first stop for a mid-morning coffee.
The second small square on the seafront is only open to pedestrians, with lots of open-air bars for snacks and aperitifs, and in the evening the possibility to stay and listen to music; there are also various exclusive boutiques and two prestigious jewellers.
For lovers of good food there are three restaurants; for sports lovers, a tennis and yachting club with a diving centre and sailing centre. Security, with a doctor on call and permanent private security guards, is guaranteed by the efficient consortium, which also organizes an interesting calendar of social and cultural events in the town squares. The geographical position of Porto Rafael allows access by a short trip, also possible by simple dinghy, to all the islands of the Maddalena archipelago, a strictly protected marine park.
Corsica and its islands are just a few miles away and can also be reached by car and ferry departing from Palau and S.Teresa di Gallura. The Smeralda coast with its famous Pevero Golf Club, Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo are just twenty-five minutes by car from Porto Rafael.
The archaeological sites and areas of natural interest are close by. The nearby town of Palau is a lively place with shops, restaurants and a colourful weekly market.

"Wonderful family stay at Villa Luna, which is breathtakingly positioned on the hill above the beautiful little town of Porto Rafael. It is hard to describe the natural attraction of this villa, appointed with great care and detail, providing excellent accommodation. Indoor the rooms and decor are beautiful and detailed, and outdoors spaces well appointed and are a delight to relax or dine. We found the approach to the villa quite easy and came and went on trips daily. Giacomina met us and also cooked two spectacular outdoor dinners. The famous beaches of the La Maddalena are to one side and the Porto Cervo area around to the other side. We hired a boat from Riccardo Y&S and explored both areas. Local restaurant favourite was La Gritta. Corsica is an easy ferry ride away too for interest. The pool is generous with spectacular views and setting."

"Villa Luna has the most amazing views you can find, looking out to Palau and the Islands and blue seas it is truly majestic. Our evenings were spent after dinner looking out an the tranquil setting. The villa itself is nicely done, a great layout, perfect combination of indoor and outdoor and a great pool area with another amazing view. Great location with so many lovely beaches only a 10-30 min car ride, many to explore and most beaches well suited for children. One downside was the driveway which is a little hairy until you get used to it."

"Thanks for your message, we had a great time in the house which is nice and well maintained, and especially full of private objects of the owners. Giacomina was a great help, and very nice with us, we had a few lunches at home with her.

The garden is very well maintained, but in my opinion with too much water, the grass is always very wet. Kitchen is well organized, rooms and bathrooms are fine, linen is very good.

One remark for the parking which is difficult, especially with a car left by the owner in the parking, in the future, this car should be parked on the side. we had 2 rentals, Giacomina has one as well as the gardener. Anyway, that is a small problem easy to fix. Internet works but has a very slow range limited at the living room.

We really enjoyed it and are renting again 3 weeks next year."

Pictures do not do justice to the views. Brought my elderly parents who would have been just as happy parked there all day. Rooms are wonderfully appointed. Outdoor living space is beyond words. Accomodations are top notch with only one hiccup, the driveway! Very steep and narrow. Both groups scraped the side of their car. Gate is a pain getting in and out and should be left open during stay. Housekeeper seemed very nervous about security. Foliage was peaking and glorious. Kitchen was Devine for cooking and entertaining. A true paradise! Palau is a charming town close by full of outstanding dining options. For your end to improve, You need a more descriptive operative of things to do, where to shop, maps of community and the local towns with a bit of detail. Also listings of grocery stores and hours open, where beach is located, and even a map to the house!"
