Iron gates clang open and a luxury Italian villa appears, surrounded by its marvellous Mediterranean garden after a palm tree-lined pathway. Renting an exclusive vacation home in this area of Puglia means for the travellers an enthusiastic holiday experience mixing countryside flair to beach life.
Being situated on the western side of Salento, in the hinterland, villa Centostelle is at a thirty-seven-kilometre distance from Lecce and at a fifteen-minute drive from the vibrant seafront town and beaches of Gallipoli. Relaxing in the garden that is filled with olive groves, fruit trees, organic vegetable gardens, leafy arcades make you feel in the warm southern side of Italy, just at the heel of the boot; that is the shape of Italy.
The property consists of two newly restored traditional Palladian style homes once considered the main villa and the other, of the same standard, called the guest house. Their style is recognizable by the period vaulted ceilings. In the larger villa, one enters the spacious, airy living area with its comfortable sofas. The three double (or twin) bedrooms, all accessed from the main living area, are tastefully furnished and come with en suite bathrooms, two with shower and one with a bathtub and shower.
Also accessed from the living room is the stylish & well-equipped cornflower blue kitchen. At the rear of the house, there is a seating & dining area - as well as a staircase that leads to the spectacular roof terrace, equipped with sun loungers and a seating area.
The entrance of the second property, the guest house, takes one into a cosy furnished living area with a large fireplace. From here a large archway leads one into the kitchen and dining area. At either end of this open-plan living-dining-kitchen area are the two double (or twin) bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms. One of the bedrooms has the extra benefit of a small baby cot room/ dressing room for infants.
As lovely as the gardens are, you may find yourself spending the vast majority of your time in the pool area, generous enough with its double size. It boasts an outdoor lounge area with sofas and fireplace, a pool house with a kitchen, a bathroom and a bathroom with a shower. The pool itself has a shallow paddling/beach area and is surrounded by comfortable sun loungers, from which you can work on your tan during the day or watch a film on the large pool-side cinema screen in the evening.
On top of the daily cleaning, guests at villa Centostelle may also make use of a personalised concierge service, glad to be useful to tailor your holiday when needed, hiring in local chefs for long lazy al fresco meals, in-house massages, yoga, pizza chef, wine tasting, cooking classes, or making sure you find the best local hidden beaches and restaurants, nothing is too much trouble.
On arrival, you will find each kitchen stocked with the villa's home-produced olive oil and honey, along with some local dishes.
For those of you who do not want to laze in the sun by the pool all day: sailing, diving, tennis, riding, fishing trips, wine tasting can all be arranged.
