Every year, the Touring Club of Italy, the 120-year-old non-profit association dedicated to tourism, culture and environment, in cooperation with Legambiente, the Italian Environmental association, awards the title “the most beautiful sea 2020”.
The title is dedicated only to the Italian beaches and aims to list and give advice to beach lovers about the most limpid and crystal sea.
Useful advice for people who believe that the quality of the sea should be related to respect for the environment and tourism facilities.
The “sail” is the symbol used to identify the score obtained, from a minimum of one to a maximum of five.
Sails represent the level of clearness of the sea, the quality of the environment, the tourism facilities and the energy consumption.
In addition, among the aspects evaluated, there is the use of land, energy, waste, food safety, water treatment and the initiatives for sustainability.
About 40 districts have been awarded among the one hundred analysed, and don’t forget the lakes: from the Alps to Trasimeno Lake, from Garda Lake to Bolsena Lake.
This year, the five sails award 15 districts: 5 in Sardinia, 3 in Tuscany and Puglia, 2 in Campania, 1 in Liguria and Sicily.
1. Among the awarded ones, the first place goes to Baunei, in Sardinia, on the eastern coast, province of Nuoro.
2. The second place goes to Castiglione della Pescaia and Maremma in Tuscany (province of Grosseto)
3. The third place goes to the coastline of Chia and its Domus De Maria (province of Cagliari, south Sardinia).
Nearest deluxe Sardinia villa Fenice.
4. Cinque Terre, Liguria
5. In the province of Nuoro, on the eastern coast of Sardinia, another award for Baronia di Posada and Parco of Tepilora; on the north-western coast, the vast district from Santa Teresa di Gallura to Palau and Arzachena.
Beachfront Sardinian villas.
The award is even more important considering that about one-quarter of Europe's seas touch the Italian coasts.
